Heeding God’s Call organized a city-wide series of interfaith gun violence prevention programs on Saturday of MLK Weekend ’09, culminating in worship, march and rally at Colosimo’s Gun Center.
Saturday, January 17 of MLK Weekend 2009 saw a full day of interfaith activities organized by Heeding God’s Call and over 40 local faith communities. During the morning, faithful from across the greater Philadelphia area gathered in nine area churches and synagogues to participated in programs of prayer, education and action. These sessions were organized by urban/suburban faith partnerships. In the afternoon, hundreds of the participants from the morning sessions, and many more, met for a combined worship service at a North Broad Street church. The worshippers were then joined, on one of the coldest days in memory, by dozens more for a march down Ridge Avenue to Spring Garden Street and rally in front of Colosimo’s Gun Center. Hundreds called upon Colosimo to ‘Sign the Code!’
